UOSA is an advanced waste water treatment facility in Centreville, VA that currently treats and reclaims approximately 32 MGD of waste water that supplements the water supply of the Occoquan Reservoir, a major drinking water supply for Northern Virginia.
UOSA employs a “high lime” process to remove phosphorous from the waste water stream before discharge. The chemical sludge that is produced as part of the high lime process is dewatered in recessed chamber filter presses (50% TS) and is ultimately land filled on site. UOSA currently produces about 23,000 tons per year.
I am interested in finding a beneficial reuse for this high lime solids and was wondering if you could identify other industries might make good use of this material. The material is available for no charge. We are just interested in finding a beneficial reuse for long term sustainability.
This product is currently registered in the Commonwealth of VA as a soil supplement, agricultural liming material. An excel spreadsheet that provides a summary of the chemical characteristics of the high lime solids can be provided.
